Betty Shabazz, wife of Malcolm X, saw him assassinated in front of her. I can’t even imagine the horror of that, for anyone who has had to witness such violence. It’s hard not to think of the Tucson events a few days ago. Senseless. Acts. Of. Violence.
Betty Shabazz survived, though, and provided for all six of her daughters. She attained degrees and had a professional career. And she became a respected speaker and community activist. Amazing strength.
“We can say “Peace on Earth.” We can sing about it, preach about it or pray about it, but if we have not internalized the mythology to make it happen inside us, then it will not be.” Amen.
