A free box of KHAYA COOKIES — my favorite! — will be sent to the next 3 people who email me that they’ve seen this blog post and would like to try a box of Khaya cookies. Please, if you’re under 14, ask your parents if it’s OK for you to email me with your address, or have them email me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org
Why? Because just as wonderful as the taste of these gems is the story behind them: Alicia Polak worked for Merrill Lynch in NYC but after September 11, 2001, she decided to do something more worthwhile with her life, eventually starting the Khaya (which means “home” in Xhosa) Cookie Company in a poor township in South Africa, enabling women there to start their own business and take care of themselves and their families. As Alicia Polak says:
KHAYA COOKIES CREATES OPPORTUNITY ONE BITE AT A TIME. FOR EVERY 1,500 BOXES SOLD WE CREATE 1 NEW JOB IN SOUTH AFRICA. FOR EVERY 500 ORDERS PACKED WE CREATE 4 NEW JOBS AT OUR DISTRIBUTION CENTER IN PHILADELPHIA, PA.
